Bone Cancer Surgery
Surgery is often a key component in the treatment of bone cancer and can vary based on the type, location, and stage of the cancer. Limb-Sparing Surgery aims to remove the cancerous tumor while preserving the limb's functionality. The affected bone and surrounding tissues are removed, and the gap may be filled with a bone graft or a prosthetic implant. In cases where limb-sparing surgery is not feasible, amputation of the affected limb may be necessary to ensure complete removal of the cancer. Rotationplasty is a specialized surgery often used for young patients with bone cancer near the knee. The lower part of the leg is removed, and the remaining lower limb is rotated and reattached to function as a knee joint. In Metastasis Surgery: If the cancer has spread (metastasized) to other parts of the body, additional surgeries might be needed to remove tumors from other organs, such as the lungs.
